Fort Greene is a diverse and culturally rich neighborhood known for its many tree-lined streets and elegant low-rise housing. Sandwiched between Downtown Brooklyn and Clinton Hill, it is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Since the 1960s Fort Greene has been the home to the first middle and professional class of African Americans in New York; and since the early 80s, there has been a growing movement of artists in the neighborhood.
Home to more than 40 art and cultural institutions that offer untapped resources of opportunities and events. Recently it has become one of the hot spots in Brooklyn, as its gentrification has attracted a more young, diverse, and affluent demographics. This evolution comes with new development that is slowly changing the aesthetics of brownstone Fort Greene.
Growth typically comes at a cost. As the neighborhood gains popularity, its soul is forgotten or some would say lost. This wayfinding system is designed to bridge the old and the new. An attractive modern look that mimics the new development and guides visitors to the soul of the neighborhood.
